Terms for courses and visits

Last updated 11 August 2026

These terms apply to every course, private session and studio visit at ORRISVEIL. They are short because the arrangement is simple, and we would rather you actually read them.

Booking and payment

  • Places are held by email, in the order enquiries arrive. A place is provisional until the deposit is paid.
  • The deposit is €50 per person and confirms your seat. We hold an unconfirmed place for five days.
  • The balance is due on the day of the first session, by card or bank transfer. For Composition Libre the balance may be split across three monthly payments — ask.
  • Prices include all materials, glassware and the flacons you take home. They include Belgian VAT.

Cancellation by you

  • More than 14 days before — full refund, deposit included.
  • 7 to 14 days before — deposit retained, balance not due. You may transfer your place to another date within six months, or to another person.
  • Less than 7 days before — the full fee is due, because at eight seats we cannot refill the place. If you tell us early enough that we do refill it, you get everything back.
  • Missing a session of a multi-week course — we will run you through what you missed at the next open bench, at no charge. We cannot refund individual sessions.

Cancellation by us

If we cancel a course for any reason, you choose between a full refund or a transfer to the next date. If a teacher is ill we will normally substitute rather than cancel; if that is not possible we will tell you as early as we can. We are not able to cover travel or accommodation you booked separately.

Health and safety

  • You will be working with concentrated aromatic materials for three hours at a time. If you are pregnant, asthmatic, or have a known fragrance sensitivity, write to us before booking — most people are fine, but we would rather discuss it in advance than on the evening.
  • Please arrive unfragranced. A perfume on your wrist will interfere with your own work and with everyone else's.
  • Minimum age is 16. Under 18s need written consent from a parent or guardian.
  • Some materials are flammable. No open flame in the workroom, and we will point out the extinguisher on the way in.

What you make

The formula you write is yours. You own it outright and may use it commercially without asking us or paying us anything. We keep a copy in the archive purely so it can be remade or continued later, and we will destroy that copy on request.

We do not put student work into production, we do not enter it into competitions on your behalf, and we do not use it in any house line — there is no house line.

Photographs

We occasionally photograph the bench during a class. Nobody is photographed without being asked first, and asking happens on the evening, not in these terms. Saying no changes nothing about the session.

Liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Beyond that, our liability is limited to the fee you paid. We are not responsible for belongings left in the studio.

Governing law

These terms are governed by Belgian law, and the courts of Ghent have jurisdiction. As a consumer you keep all rights you have under Belgian and EU consumer law, whatever this page says.

Questions

Write to [email protected]. If something here seems unreasonable for your situation, say so — most of these clauses exist because of one specific thing that happened once, and we are not rigid about them.
